Terms of Service
Last updated: March 18, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Animal Detect, including our web platform, API, documentation, billing pages, and related support services. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms.
1. Service overview
Animal Detect helps wildlife professionals, researchers, and organizations manage and analyze wildlife imagery and related data through a browser-based platform and programmable API.
Accounts begin on the free Public plan unless you purchase a paid plan. Paid plans are currently Core and Growth. Higher-volume needs may be handled through custom arrangements.
2. Credits and billing model
Animal Detect uses a credit-based billing system across both the platform and API.
- 1 single-image inference API request = 1 credit
/api/v1/batch-detect= 1 credit per image in the batch- 1 processed image in the Animal Detect platform workflow = 1 credit
- Reference endpoints may be free of credit charges, but still remain subject to rate limits
Paid subscriptions include recurring credit allowances. Monthly plans reset each month. Annual plans grant the full yearly credit allowance upfront at the beginning of each annual cycle.
Paid accounts may also buy one-time top-up credit packs. Top-up credits do not recur and are consumed after included subscription credits are exhausted. Top-up credits remain valid while your account is active and the service is available. We reserve the right to modify this policy with reasonable notice.
3. Free plan, paid plans, and feature access
The Public plan is intentionally limited. Paid plans increase both usage capacity and available functionality.
- OCR API endpoints require a paid plan for normal API use
- API rate limits increase by plan level
We offer both free and paid features, and we may modify, expand, or introduce new paid-only features over time. Such changes will not materially reduce the features included in an active paid subscription during its current billing period. Public API keys may receive limited documentation-playground exceptions that do not change normal plan entitlements.
4. Existing trial accounts
Some accounts may still be on a previously activated legacy trial. Those trials grant temporary Core-level feature access until their recorded end date.
Trials do not renew automatically. When a trial ends, the account returns to the Public plan unless you purchase a paid subscription.
We reserve the right to limit, deny, or revoke legacy trial access in cases of abuse, including repeated registrations.
5. Public and private data policy
Public and paid plans differ in how submitted content may be handled.
- Public plan: content submitted while your account is on the Public plan may be reviewed or reused by us for service improvement, evaluation, and internal research, subject to applicable law and our Privacy Policy.
- Paid plans and legacy trial accounts: content submitted while your account is on a paid plan or active legacy trial is treated as private and is not reused for those purposes, except as required to operate, secure, support, or comply with legal obligations.
This policy is disclosed in pricing, signup, and legal pages. We do not backfill acknowledgement records or retroactively reclassify older stored content solely because your plan later changes.
6. Your content and permissions
You retain ownership of content you submit to Animal Detect. You grant us the rights we reasonably need to host, store, transmit, process, secure, back up, and display that content in order to operate the service for you.
For content submitted while your account is on the Public plan, you also grant us the right to review and reuse that content for service improvement, evaluation, and internal research as described in our Privacy Policy.
You represent that you have the necessary rights and permissions to upload and process the content you submit, and that doing so does not violate applicable law or the rights of others.
Your use of the service is also subject to our Privacy Policy, which forms an integral part of these Terms.
7. Plan changes, cancellation, and payment failure
- Monthly upgrades take effect immediately in the current cycle.
- Annual upgrades take effect immediately, start a new annual cycle, and refresh yearly credits.
- Downgrades and cancellation to Public take effect at the next renewal date.
- Monthly-to-annual and annual-to-monthly interval changes are not self-serve in v1.
If a recurring payment fails, we do not grant a new subscription cycle until payment succeeds. The account may move to a past-due state. Existing one-time top-up credits may remain usable during that state, but subscription benefits do not renew until payment is recovered or a new subscription starts.
8. Grace policy
Paid API users may receive a short grace allowance if credits reach zero. This grace is intended to help avoid abrupt service interruption while you resolve billing or purchase more credits.
- Grace is temporary, not a recurring entitlement
- Grace is capped at 5% of the plan's monthly credits and up to 4 days
- Grace does not auto-charge your payment method
- Grace applies to API usage only in v1; platform uploads stop when available credits are exhausted
9. Payments and refunds
Paid subscriptions, top-ups, and related billing activity are processed by Stripe or another payment provider we designate.
If you believe a charge was made in error, contact support@animaldetect.com within 7 days or as required by applicable law. Refund requests are reviewed case by case unless mandatory law requires otherwise.
10. Acceptable use
You may not use Animal Detect to break the law, interfere with service availability, abuse our API, bypass plan restrictions, attempt unauthorized access, or upload content you do not have the right to process.
We may suspend or limit access if we reasonably believe your use creates security, legal, operational, or abuse risk.
You may not use the service in violation of applicable export control or sanctions laws, including those of the European Union.
We may monitor usage and enforce rate limits or technical measures to prevent abuse or misuse of the service.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Really A Robot ApS, its affiliates, officers, and employees from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from: (a) your content, (b) your use of the service, or (c) your violation of these Terms or applicable law.
12. Suspension and termination
You may stop using Animal Detect at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you materially breach these Terms, create abuse or security risk, fail to pay for paid services, or if continued service would create legal or operational risk for us or others.
Termination does not automatically remove records we must keep for billing, security, legal compliance, or legitimate operational purposes.
Upon termination or suspension, your access to the service may be disabled immediately. We may delete or retain your data in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable legal obligations.
13. Intellectual property
Animal Detect, including its software, models, design, documentation, and branding, remains the property of Really A Robot ApS or its licensors. These Terms do not transfer ownership of our intellectual property to you.

16. Changes to the service or Terms
We may update the service, plans, or these Terms over time. Material changes will be reflected on this page and, where appropriate, communicated by email or inside the product before they take effect.
17. Force majeure
We are not liable for any failure or delay in performance caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, war, terrorism, labor disputes, internet or cloud service failures, or governmental actions.
18. Contact and governing law
